Mardi Gras is a time for fun and celebration! We attend parades while wearing masks and colors of purple, green, and gold. During the day, parade floats will throw beads and candy into the crowd, and at night the celebrations continue out on the town. But what is Mardi Gras really all about? Wikipedia explains Mardi Gras as this:

 The terms “Mardi Gras“, “Mardi Gras season“, and “Carnival season“, in English, refer to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday; in English the day is sometimes referred to as Shrove Tuesday, from the word shrive, meaning “confess.” Related popular practices are associated with celebrations before the fasting and religious obligations associated with the penitential season of Lent. Popular practices include wearing masks and costumes, overturning social conventions, dancing, sports competitions, parades, etc.

1. Make invitations: Here’s your chance to get creative! Come up with a guest list and mail out special invitations for each guest. Handmade invitations are always the best. 2. Set up a photo booth: Every time I go to a gathering, I always wish I had taken more pictures. Guests will be too busy having fun to remember to take pictures, so why not set up a homemade photo booth right in your living room? All it takes is a blank background and a camera set up on a tripod. Can’t find a blank background? Try hanging a white sheet on the wall! Set them up with a little nest of blankets, pillows and sleeping bags on the floor, tuck the little tikes in, and pop in a movie!

5. Play games: Party games are a huge hit depending on the group of people invited. Games such as Pictionary, Cranium, and Charades are great for groups. If you have a rather large guest list, try playing the Forehead Game: before guests arrive, come up with list of famous actors, characters, singers, politicians, or public figures that everyone would know of and write them down on individual strips of paper. Each guest will choose a slip of paper and without looking they will stick the piece of paper on their forehead with the name facing out. For the remainder of the night, your guests will walk around asking each other yes or no questions in hopes that they will figure out which public icon they are.
